Current bylaws governing ravines and natural areas in Toronto limit what volunteers can do without the City’s permission. The Ravine and Natural Feature Protection Bylaw and the Parks Bylaw, together, prohibit many common stewardship activities without a permit, such as:

Removing invasive herbaceous plant species
Removing invasive woody plant seedlings
Planting native plants

Our Pilot Program provides a way for stewards to take care of ravines and natural areas – without violating the bylaws
